Güssing district heating
|
Güssinger Fernwärme
GmbH
In order to reduced carbon dioxide emissions drastically, in the context of the
Güssing climate alliance, the biomass
district heating works was opened in 1996.
In contrast to fossil fuels, biomass is a local, renewable energy source which
is sufficiently available. The materials most suitable for use in the biomass
heating plant are above all wood in the form of chips, sawdust, bark and
pellets. Biomass for the Güssing district heating plant is purchased
exclusively from local and regional forestry owners; this in turn ensures that
besides a high regional net product, our forests are maintained. Through the
controlled combustion of biomass with waste gas purification, the Güssing
biomass district heating plant produces only a fraction of the emissions
produced by a large number of existing individual heating plants.
From just one central plant for heating, we supply heat to connected buildings
such as homes, businesses, schools etc. Through the combustion of biomass,
water is heated up in the heating boiler of the central plant; this water is
then piped through well-insulated pipes to the customer. The required heat is
transferred to the house central heating system via heat exchangers. The cooled
water is returned to the heating plant via return pipes.
Heat production, distribution, supply and consumption are electronically
regulated and monitored by the biomass district heating plant. The
sophisticated technology ensures optimum heating operation, minimises staffing
expenditure, and helps to save costs.
Besides providing many advantages for customers, the Güssing biomass district
heating plant serves as a great example for the whole region.
