Lechner Hof ostrich farm

Document Actions
An unconventional use of grassland: Tour of the ostrich enclosure and the associated production and marketing.

We are a traditional family operation. Our farm has been running for 4 generations, and is located in the foothills of the Alps, at a height of 480 metres above sea level.

The farm was once a cattle farm, but since 2004 we have been involved in rearing ostriches. We market direct from the farm, or through various weekday and farmers’ markets. Lechner Hof is located at Tradigist 36, approx. 4.5 km off the Pielachtal main  road, in a quiet side valley. Here, the ostriches can grow up naturally.

We also process various wild fruits, which grow naturally on our farm.

These yield for example products from cornelian cherries, sloes, rosehips etc.
