Südburgenland Plus

Description for LAG

The LEADER region of South Burgenland comprises the districts of Oberwart, Güssing, Jennersdorf and nine local authorities in eastern Styria. It borders on Hungary in the east, Slovenia in the south, and Lower Austria in the north. This is an extremely peripheral area with a GDP that is only 59% of the average for Austria. In the last few years, the LEADER region has developed into a hot springs area. However, with the technology centres in Pinkafeld, Güssing and Jennersdorf, it has also been possible to improve the basic conditions for commerce and industry.

Strategy

Travel and Eat
With the expansion and construction of the thermal baths in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Stegersbach and Jennersdorf , Southern Burgenland is well on its way to becoming one of the most important Austrian Wellness destinations. This boom will receive targeted support in the framework of LEADER + by integrating existing attractions like the nature parks, bicycle path network, bridle path network, and the wine idyll of Southern Burgenland. The “Kulinarium Südburgenland” (Culinaria Southern Burgenland) will also make a contribution. This initiative of the union of the “Schmankerlwirte” (Delicacy hosts) which has 26 businesses as members at the moment, wants to found a supplier pool of farmers marketers with the motto “Travel and Eat”. This would be a supply and demand group with regional specific quality standards. Research into the history and future of the Burgenland kitchen has also been thought about. An important goal of the tourism industry is the improvement of the attitudes towards tourism and quality of services.
Under the label of “Eco energy tourism”, the European centre for renewable energy (EEE) in Guessing wants to supervise a number of bio mass energy producers, link the existing facilities and create a structure for scientific and economic tourism. This would be a continuance of the Styrian “Energy Road”, which has similar goals. The local supply system that is in danger in many communities will be guaranteed by the “Multi-Service-Businesses”. The Food Cluster, Southern Burgenland. is a particularly ambitious project that will be carried out through a co-operation between agriculture and trade.
